background
The Twilight Saga is a famous vampire series characterized by tension, drama, and love. It also features many great
car brands
. The filmmakers went for a wide range of sports cars,
coupes
, and sedans across the movies.
Many characters are well-matched with their car, and the vehicles seem to be an extension of their personality—some cars were a miss. Let's look at some of the Twilight cars used in different sets and the characters that drive them.
Some of the “Twilight” characters drove cars that didn’t quite match their personalities.

‘Twilight’ cars: Volvo XC60 driven by Edward Cullen

Edward Cullen is the lead character in the Twilight series. In the second and third films, he drives a black Volvo XC60. According to
The Drive
, the character is a 108-year-old vampire stuck in a 17-year-old’s body.
This character should be full of life, have lots of drama, and drive the latest and fastest sports cars in town. Unfortunately, the XC60 doesn’t embody any of these characteristics. While it’s a fast car, it’s not sporty and definitely not the kind of vehicle that a moneyed 17-year-old would be driving.
A flashier model would have been a better pick for Edward.

Porsche 911 Turbo driven by Alice Cullen

Alice Cullen is the adoptive sister of the lead character, Edward. She is petite and has a graceful gait. Alice can also see the future, a psychic power developed from her premonitions before becoming a vampire. She is relatively quiet and reserved.
Alice's Porsche 911 is a high-performance, two-door sports car. It runs on a rear-mounted flax-six engine. While it’s a perfect car for a young person such as Alice, it doesn’t quite click with her character.
This model would have been better for Edward, as he is more outgoing and loves speed. Nonetheless, they really tried to get a good match for her unpredictable character.

Ferrari F430 driven by Bella Swan

Bella is the fictional protagonist of the series, and the whole story is narrated from her point of view. She’s a young girl who moves to her father's home and meets the mysterious Cullen family. Bella then falls in love with Edward.
The Ferrari F430 is the first car she drives after joining the Cullen clan. It’s a good fit for her. She is rebellious, outgoing, and ready to face life.
The Ferrari delivers speed and performance; it also sets you apart from others. All these characteristics are representative of Bella.

Why did the characters switch cars for ‘New Moon’?

There are several reasons why the characters got new cars for the second installment of the series, New Moon. Some car brands had dropped a few models before the second and third movies. For example, Volvo dropped Edward's C30 model before the sequel, so he used the Volvo XC60 instead.
The product placements for the C30 led to increased sales, so Volvo decided to use New Moon to market its pricey XC60 crossover. There were a ton of ads featuring Edward Cullen with the XC60, and this definitely helped the brand stand out.
The new models were also a good way to show how each characters’ personality changed in New Moon. One example is Bella, who starts with a 1953 Chevrolet pickup then buys a Mercedes Guardian before being gifted a Ferrari F430. Each model represents a different stage of her life.
