How to change your address on a Wyoming driver’s license
Nobody likes making the trip to the WYDOT, and you can avoid the hassle by mailing or faxing your notification of a change of address form instead. However, if you’d like the change to be reflected on your license or ID card, you’ll have to make the in-person trip.
If you’re moving within Wyoming
Whether you’re just switching apartments in Cheyenne
or packing up and moving all the way from Sheridan
to Rock Springs
, you’ll have to update your address with the WYDOT within ten days. To do so, you’ve got two options: Print and complete the Notice of Change of Address
form and fax it to 307-777-3823 or mail it to the Wyoming Department of Transportation, Driver Services Program at 5300 Bishop Blvd, Cheyenne, Wyoming 82009. If you wish for your new address to be reflected on your new ID, you’ll have to visit your nearest driver's exam office in person and surrender your current ID before applying for a renewal.
To update your address via the phone, all you have to do is send in the form. To get a new ID, you’ll be charged the standard renewal fee of $35.
If you’re moving to Wyoming from another state
If you have recently moved to Wyoming, you’ll have no choice but to apply for a Wyoming driver’s license in person. Fortunately, the deadline is a little bit more flexible—you’ll have an entire year from the time you establish residency in Wyoming to obtain an in-state license.
You’ll need to bring the following documents with you to the WYDOT when you apply:
One document providing proof of identity, such as a state-certified birth certificate, a valid U.S. passport, a valid foreign passport and U.S. visa, a valid permanent resident card, etc.
Two documents establishing proof of residency. Any mail addressed to your current residential address, such as a utility bill, rent receipt, or bank statement will do.
Proof of social security number, if you have it. This is not required, but it is recommended. Your social security card, a W-2 Form, bank statement, or any other official government document is acceptable
Your current out-of-state ID card, which you’ll be required to surrender.
Once you arrive at the WYDOT with your documents, you’ll be photographed and required to complete a vision screening evaluation. If you have a history of medical or vision problems, you may be required to have your doctor complete a medical and/or vision evaluation form confirming your safe ability to drive.
Finally, you’ll be assessed a fee of $45 and your new license will be mailed to you within 4-6 weeks.
Note that if your driving privileges have been withdrawn in another state due to suspension, cancellation, denial, or revocation, you will not be issued a Wyoming license until you have met all of the established requirements for reinstatement.

Why notifying your insurance company of a change of address is so important
Different states have their own minimum amounts of liability insurance
. If you move without informing your insurance company, you might not have the right coverage—and you don’t want to wait until you get pulled over to find that out. That could result in major fines and even license suspension! Additionally, most insurance companies use information from your address to set your premium rates—such as evaluating levels of risk within specific zip codes. If you switch zip codes without informing your provider, you could be accused of insurance fraud.
