The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is pretty impressive.

In electric-only mode, the hybrid Pacifica can achieve the equivalent of 84 miles per gallon with a range of 566 miles. However, it’s worth pointing out that the Pacifica doesn’t have a selectable electric-only mode. In other words, your vehicle independently determines whether to use electric or gas power.

But those specs are still impressive, especially when you realize that the Pacifica was the first electrified minivan in its class—with a more extensive range and several years’ lead on its competitors.

To charge the Pacifica Hybrid’s battery, find the exterior port on the driver’s side fender. To monitor battery levels, look for an indicator light on the instrument panel. You can fully charge the battery in two hours with a 240-volt charger or 14 hours with the 120-volt charger that comes standard with the vehicle.

Note that you cannot use Level 3 superchargers with the Pacifica hybrid.

How does the Pacifica hybrid’s battery measure up to the competition?

There is only one true competitor for the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid: the Toyota Sienna gasoline-electric hybrid. After all, it wouldn’t be fair to compare Chrysler’s hybrid minivan to an electric vehicle like the Tesla or the Nissan Leaf, would it?

The first major difference between the Pacifica and the Sienna is the charging method. The Pacifica must be plugged in to charge (in addition to the regenerative braking), producing about 30 miles of all-electric driving. On the other hand, the Sienna has a hybrid powertrain and no plug that gives about 500 miles of total range.

The second difference is that the Toyota Sienna offers front- or all-wheel-drive, whereas the Chrysler only offers front-wheel drive. Of course, trim level and optional upgrades give the Pacifica hybrid an edge in terms of luxury, but it will come at a cost.
