Oil service lights
are one of the handiest features of modern cars—but they can also be one of the most annoying if they don’t switch off when they should. Luckily, resetting that light in a 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander is an easy process.
If you’ve had an oil change but your Mitsubishi hasn’t gotten the memo, we’ve got step-by-step instructions to reset the system right here.

How to reset the engine oil maintenance light on a 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander

The maintenance monitor system in your 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander keeps track of your SUV’s oil life so you don’t have to, but once you’ve taken care of the oil change, it may not always reset on its own. In that case, you’ll need to reset the system yourself to make sure your Mitsubishi tracks the right interval between oil changes.
If you take your Outlander to a service shop for an oil change, the mechanic often resets the system for you…but not always. If that has happened to you, don’t drive all the way back to the shop to fix it—you can just reset the light yourself, and without any special skills!
If your Outlander dashboard reminder is still showing the blanks/dashes even after an oil change, here’s how to reset it:
  • Turn your car on without starting the ignition.
  • Find the INFO or TRIP/RESET button to the left of your steering wheel. It looks like two layered rectangles.
  • Press it to navigate through the dashboard displays until you see the wrench symbol and your oil life display.
  • Hold down the button until the wrench begins to flash.
  • Press the button again. This should display “clear” on the screen.
  • Press the button again to see your updated oil life.
That’s all! Now you can see how long your Outlander has until it needs another oil change.
If this process was unsuccessful, you might need to take your Mitsubishi to a dealership or trusted mechanic to figure out the problem.

How often does a 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander need an oil change?

The time between oil changes depends on what kind of oil you use. All Outlanders need 0W-20 oil, and full synthetic is recommended. With this oil, you can typically go between 7,500 and 10,000 miles before needing an oil change. If you opt for
conventional oil
, you’ll need to
change the oil and filter
every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.
If you want to keep your Outlander running as long as possible, you’ll need to stay on top of regular oil services. Skipping out on this maintenance task can cause major engine damage, cutting your SUV’s life short and racking up expensive repair bills.
