How to reset the engine oil maintenance light on a 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Your 2014 Jeep Cherokee is equipped with an “Oil Change Required” light that indicates it’s time to replace the oil in your car. While this light is a great tool to help you remember to service your engine oil, it does not automatically turn off once you replace the oil. Instead, you’ll have to follow a few steps to reset it yourself so that your car can continue tracking the proper intervals between oil changes.
But don’t stress—the steps are quick and easy to follow, and you don’t even need any special tools. Here’s what to do:
  • Without depressing the brake pedal, press the START/STOP button twice to turn the ignition to the ON/RUN position.
  • Slowly and completely press the gas pedal three times within 10 seconds.
  • Press the START/STOP button one more time without depressing the brake pedal to turn the ignition to the OFF/LOCK position
After you complete those steps, the oil change indicator system should reset. The light will reappear when it’s time for you to service your Jeep again and replace its engine oil.

How often does a 2014 Jeep Cherokee need an oil change?

Jeep recommends replacing the oil in your 2014 Cherokee every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. For models with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, you’ll want to use SAE 0W-20, while SAE 5W-20 is the proper type of oil for models with a 3.2-liter six-cylinder motor
It’s critical that you keep up with regular oil changes because replacing the oil in your car is one of the most basic and effective forms of maintenance you can perform. And routine oil changes will go a long way toward extending your car’s life and
preventing significant engine damage
.
You can take your car to the dealership or an independent repair shop for this service. However, oil changes are an accessible form of maintenance that almost anyone can do with the right know-how. Plus, performing your own oil changes is a great way to save some time and money!
If all you need to do is replace the oil in your 2014 Cherokee, resetting the light should be quick and easy. But if you can’t get the light to turn off or your Jeep needs a more complex form of maintenance or repair, you’re better off taking your car to a professional.
