The 2019 Jeep Cherokee has effectively eliminated the guesswork when it comes to knowing when your Cherokee needs an oil change. When the time has come to change your Cherokee’s oil you will hear a chime and an “Oil Change required” message will appear in the instrument cluster display.
After a successful oil change, you will notice that the “Oil Change required” message will continue to appear every time you start your car. To turn off the indicator, you will have to reset the Oil life system by accessing the instrument cluster display, which can get tricky.
Thankfully, this guide shows you step by step how to reset the Oil life system.

How to reset the engine oil maintenance light on a 2019 Jeep Cherokee

Resetting the engine oil life on your 2019 Jeep Cherokee is relatively uncomplicated. You’ll use the buttons on your left side of your steering wheel to navigate through the instrument cluster display to the “Oil Life” section. There you will manually reset the “Oil life” to 100 percent. Here’s one way to do it:
  • First, make sure your Jeep Cherokee is in park. Then with your foot off the brake, press down on the engine start/stop button twice. Your Cherokee will enter the “on-run” position—be sure not to start your Cherokee’s engine.
  • Then use the arrows on the left side of the steering wheel to navigate the vehicle info section and find the “Oil Life” sub-menu.
  • Once there, push and hold the “ok” button on the left side of the steering wheel until the oil life gauge resets to 100%.
There’s always this way to do it:
  • Put your Jeep Cherokee in park. With your foot off the brake, press down on the engine start/stop button twice—again, do not start your Cherokee’s engine.
  • Slowly press down on the accelerator in under 10 seconds.
  • Turn the Cherokee off.
Both of these methods should change the oil life section back to 100% and stop the “Change oil” indicator from appearing every time you start the Cherokee. When the time comes for your next oil change, the indicator will reappear and you will know exactly what to do after your oil change!

How often does a 2019 Jeep Cherokee need an oil change?

Jeep recommends using full synthetic motor oil and changing the oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. Luckily the oil life system on your 2019 Jeep Cherokee will let you know precisely when your Jeep Cherokee needs an oil change.
Changing your Cherokee’s oil is an essential step to keeping it in peak condition. If you do it by yourself at home, you can save a lot of money—just remember to reset the oil life system!
