How to reset the engine oil maintenance light on a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Your 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee uses an oil monitoring system to keep track of how much oil is left in the tank—when the oil gets low, the system illuminates the dashboard’s engine oil maintenance light as a reminder to top off or change your oil.
In order for the system to properly track this information, however, it must be reset after each oil change. You can reset the oil maintenance light in one of two ways, with the first being via the main instrument cluster:
  1. Make sure the vehicle is set to “Park” and close all doors.
  2. Turn the ignition to the “RUN” position, but don’t start the engine.
  3. Using the navigation buttons on the left side of your steering wheel, scroll up until you find the “VEHICLE” heading and then scroll right until the instrument cluster displays the remaining oil life.
  4. While the oil life is displayed, press and hold down the “OK” button until the oil life resets back to 100%.
  5. Switch the ignition off.
Once the oil life is set to 100%, the warning light on the dashboard will automatically shut off—but if that doesn’t work, try to reset your 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s engine oil maintenance light using the following method:
  1. Close all doors and set the vehicle to “Park.”
  2. Switch the ignition on but don’t start the engine.
  3. Slowly depress the gas pedal three times within five seconds.
This should reset the oil life back to 100%, after which the indicator light should turn itself off. If the light remains on, you may need to have a mechanic diagnose the issue for you.

How often does a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee need an oil change?

As a general rule, Jeep recommends changing your 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s motor oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles when using conventional mineral oil. You do, however, have the option of using longer-lasting synthetic oil, which may enable you to go 5,000 to 10,000 miles before needing an oil change.
That said, you should still be checking your Jeep’s oil at least once a month, as certain driving conditions—such as very dusty or sandy roads and extreme high or low temperatures—can cause your motor oil to lose its efficiency prematurely, leading to more frequent oil changes.
Regardless of whether you use conventional or synthetic, your 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee requires 0W-20 rated motor oil—using an oil with different ratings can seriously damage your engine, so make sure both numbers are correct when purchasing.
If you don’t want to get your hands dirty or you don’t have the proper tools, a licensed mechanic can change your Jeep Grand Cherokee’s oil for you—expect the service to cost between $80 and $130. Changing your oil at home, however, will help you save a fair bit of cash.
