background
To reset the oil light on a 2013 Ford Escape, all you have to do is hold down the brake and gas pedal at the same time while your car is on (but not started!).
The
oil service light
on Ford Escape serves as an important reminder to change your oil, but it can get annoying if it’s still illuminated even after changing your oil. Don’t worry—that just means it needs to be reset.
The process to reset your Ford Escape service light is simple, and this article will walk you through the whole process. Let’s get started.

How to reset the engine oil maintenance light on a 2013 Ford Escape

Your 2013 Ford Escape’s Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor (IOLM) helps monitor your car’s oil life so you know when your oil needs to be changed, but you’ll need to reset it afterwards. If you don’t reset it, the system can’t properly track the right interval between oil changes.
If you get your oil changed at a repair shop, the mechanic will typically reset the light for you—but if they forget or you change your oil at home, resetting the oil maintenance light in your 2013 Escape couldn’t be easier. Here’s how to do it:
  • Turn the key to turn your car on without turning on the engine
  • Push the brake and gas pedals down simultaneously, holding them down for about 20 seconds
  • Wait until the “Service: Oil reset in progress” notification appears
  • The display may show “Service: Oil reset complete” when it’s done
This process should turn off your oil light and reset the IOLM back to 100% oil life. When the monitor detects 15% oil life, you’ll see the notice pop up again so you’ll know it’s time to get your oil changed.

How often does a 2013 Ford Escape need an oil change?

Ford recommends changing your 2013 Escape’s oil and filter every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, but using synthetic oil may extend this to around 7,500 miles. Keeping up with your Escape’s oil services will ensure it stays in good condition. Without regular oil changes, you could cause
serious damage to your engine
, so it’s one of the most essential maintenance tasks to take care of.
You could save a chunk of change by following the instructions included in your
owner’s manual
to change your own oil and filter at home—and now you know how to reset the oil maintenance light yourself, too!
If you have issues getting your oil light to reset, however, you might need to take your Escape to a repair shop or Ford service center to get some backup.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
