What Is the Largest Nissan SUV?

With a name like Armada, it should come as no surprise that the Nissan Armada is the largest Nissan SUV on the market today.

If you’re looking for a beefy, full-size SUV, you’ve got a lot of options to choose from in today’s market. The Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Jeep Wagoneer might come to mind first—but don’t leave the Nissan Armada out of consideration.

Meet the biggest Nissan SUV: the Armada

When it comes to full-size SUVs, size matters. And if you’re looking for a big Nissan SUV, the Armada is as big as it gets.
The Nissan Armada may not be the most popular SUV in its class, but a quiet, comfortable cabin and independent rear suspension create one of the calmest and smoothest rides in the segment. The 121.1-inch wheelbase ensures all eight passengers (seven if you opt for second-row captain’s chairs) have plenty of legroom, even if it does come at the cost of more cargo space behind the third row of seats.
Not to worry—whatever you can’t fit in the cargo hold can easily be pulled behind the Armada. Its potent 400-horsepower V8 can pull up to 8,500 pounds, which is more than most rivals in its class.
Plus, with a starting price of just $49,900 for the 2022 model, getting into an Armada can cost thousands less than opting for one of its competitors.
If you’re concerned that a cheaper price means sacrificing features or comfort, don’t be. Even with the base Armada S configuration, drivers benefit from a host of standard driver assists, and buyers need only add about $7K to the base price to take advantage of luxury appointments like leather, remote start, and a panoramic sunroof
If you really want to pile on the luxury, opting for the top-tier Armada Platinum trim still brings you in more than $10K below competitors’ top models.
Take a look at the tables below for more detail on key specs for the largest Nissan SUV.

Engine and performance

Regardless of trim, the Nissan Armada sports a powerful 400-horsepower, 5.6-liter V8 that produces up to 413 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. This burly V8 is capable of launching the Armada from 0-60 in just 5.9 seconds. Though you’ll probably want to ease up on the accelerator to save on fuel costs.
Unfortunately, but unsurprisingly, this powerful V8 is a thirsty beast, offering an EPA estimated fuel economy of only 14 mpg city and 19 mpg highway for its rear-wheel-drive configuration. Opting for all-wheel drive drops these numbers by 1 mpg each.

Cargo and towing

Besides fitting lots of people and cargo inside, a great benefit to having a large SUV is what you’re capable of towing behind it. Let’s take a closer look at both.
Inside, the Nissan Armada features:
  • Cargo volume behind first row: 95.4 cubic feet
  • Cargo volume behind second row: 49.9 cubic feet
  • Cargo volume behind third row: 16.5 cubic feet
16.5 cubes with all the seats up is pretty meager by full-size SUV standards. For example, the Chevy Tahoe offers 25.5 cubic feet of space behind the third row, and the massive Yukon XL features a cavernous 41.5 cubes.
While the Armada may not wow you with its interior cargo capacity, its maximum towing capacity of 8,500 pounds should be more than sufficient. Even when equipped with a diesel engine, the Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon can only haul a max of 7,900 pounds.

Nissan Armada vs. the competition

The Nissan Armada is Nissan’s largest SUV, but is it the largest SUV in its class? In some areas, it is, but in others—especially cargo capacity—it falls a bit short. Let’s take a closer look at how the Nissan Armada compares to three of its top competitors.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
