The 2023 Hyundai Palisade sports bolder styling, a new interior, upgraded tech gadgets, and a more rugged XRT model—it also has a starting MSRP of more than $1,000 higher than the 2022 Hyundai Palisade.
For anyone looking for a solid family-friendly SUV, there are plenty of choices—but not many can compete with the three-row Hyundai Palisade. First introduced in 2020, the Palisade was a huge hit, selling over 80,000 units in the first year. With confident styling, a lengthy list of features, and great safety ratings, the Hyundai Palisade has a lot to offer.
If you’re ready to compare the 2022 and 2023 Hyundai Palisade models, here are all the details—we’ll cover pricing, fuel efficiency, safety features, and available upgrades for the Palisade to help you make an educated decision between the two models.

2022 Hyundai Palisade vs. 2023 Hyundai Palisade: What’s the difference?

The Palisade is Hyundai’s largest SUV and its only three-row offering. Below it sits the
Santa Fe
and
Tucson
, neither of which offer seating for eight passengers. In the full-size SUV market, the Palisade is in direct competition with other three-row SUVs like the
Kia Telluride
,
Ford Explorer
, and
Honda Pilot
.
While the Palisade was only released a few years ago, it’s undergone several changes, especially for the 2023 model year. From the exterior, the 2023 Palisade has sharper styling with more rectangular features, an updated interior configuration, and a longer list of tech features. But when it comes to performance, the 2022 and 2023 models are identical.

Pricing

Pricing for the 2023 Hyundai Palisade has increased anywhere from $500 to over $2,000 over the 2022 model, depending on the trim level. The new XRT model fits between the popular
SEL
and
Limited
trims, and effectively acts as an off-road appearance package. Check out the table below to compare prices between each model year.

General specs

For most trim levels, the price differences aren’t significant, but for a higher price, you’d hope to see some upgrades—and you will, but not necessarily in performance. The 2023 and 2022 Hyundai Palisades have the exact same powertrain across all trim levels: same engine, towing capacity, horsepower, and more.
But if you want to
take your Palisade off-road
, the 2023 model has an advantage. Meet the Palisade XRT, which features exterior upgrades like dark 20-inch wheels, skid plates, roof rails, and trim.
But apart from a more rugged appearance, the Palisade still only features 7.9 inches of ground clearance in the 2022 and 2023 models—likely not enough to tackle any serious obstacles. So, while it can go off-road, it doesn’t mean you should.

Fuel economy

While the powertrain on the 2023 and 2022 Palisade models is identical, the fuel efficiency does vary depending on the trim level and the drivetrain, as the Palisade comes with standard FWD or available AWD. Generally speaking, FWD models tend to get slightly better fuel economy. On average, the fuel economy ranges are as follows:
2023 Hyundai Palisade FWD
2023 Hyundai Palisade AWD
2022 Hyundai Palisade FWD
2022 Hyundai Palisade AWD

While the Palisade doesn’t offer a hybrid powertrain like the Santa Fe and Tucson do, the fuel economy is improved on the 2023 Palisade, albeit not likely enough to make any significant difference to your fuel bills.

Safety ratings

Although the 2023 Hyundai Palisade hasn’t been rated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 2022 model year received a five-star NHTSA safety rating and a 2022 Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS—and we’d expect the 2023 model year would follow in its footsteps, especially with several safety upgrades.
But what makes the Palisade so safe? On top of a long list of standard active driver-assist and safety features—automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control with semi-autonomous driving mode as some examples—the Palisade is stocked with Hyundai SmartSense’s advanced safety and convenience tech features to keep you and your loved ones safe on the road.
If there are any safety features that don’t come standard on your Palisade, they are available at an additional cost.

Styling and interior changes

The 2023 Hyundai Palisade may have received a crisp new exterior styling, but the interior also underwent a reconfiguration for the 2023 model. Both models retain their eight-passenger seating configurations for the SE and SEL trims, while the Limited and Calligraphy swap out the second-row bench seating for captain’s chairs, reducing seating to seven. The biggest changes for the 2023 model are a new higher-resolution 12.0-inch infotainment display, a redesigned steering wheel, and updated upholstery options.
Here are some of the standard features you can expect in the 2023 and 2022 Hyundai Palisade:
  • 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display (2022 SE and SEL)
  • 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen (2023)
  • 10.3-inch infotainment touchscreen (2022 Limited and Calligraphy)
  • Standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity
  • USB ports
  • Proximity keyless entry
  • Remote start
  • Push-button start
  • Head-up display (Limited and Calligraphy)
  • Rear-seat intercom (Limited and Calligraphy)
  • 10-speaker sound system (Limited and Calligraphy)
  • Leather upholstery (Limited and Calligraphy)
If you’re looking for many of the features of a high-end SUV, the Palisade blurs the lines between practical and luxurious. The Calligraphy trim is the Palisade’s plushest model for both years and features upgrades like Nappa leather upholstery, a massaging driver’s seat, and park assist.

XRT

One of the big differences between the 2022 and 2023 model years for the Hyundai Palisade is the addition of the all-new XRT trim level. The XRT is the Palisade’s light off-road trim, given that front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard. The XRT FWD features dark 20-inch wheels, a dark grille, black roof side rails, cross rails, body-colored door handles, new lower bumpers with skid plate accents, new lower door garnish, and black leatherette seating, and a power sunroof on the interior.
If you choose to upgrade to the XRT AWD, you unlock Hyundai’s HTRAC all-wheel-drive system, downhill brake control mode, AWD lock, and special Snow and Tow drive modes that can help you tackle tougher terrain.

2022 Hyundai Palisade vs. 2023 Hyundai Palisade: Which should you buy?

If you’re considering purchasing the Hyundai Palisade but can’t decide between the 2023 and 2022 models, unless you can’t get over the edgy exterior of the newest model or you’re ultra-keen on doing some off-roading, buy the cheaper model.
In most cases, the 2022 Palisade will always have a better price, whether you’re buying new or used, and it has many of the same features as the 2023 Palisade, so you won’t miss out on a bunch of cool gizmos and gadgets.
