Can you have the radio on during a driving test?

I’ve been doing supervised driving with my parents. Both of them like to have the radio on softly while we’re driving, and I feel like I’m better behind the wheel with a little bit of music. My driving test is coming up. Are you allowed to play music during a driving test?

Contrary to popular belief, you can have the radio on during your driving test—provided that the instructor doesn’t deem it a disruption. However, some driving examiners may frown upon this move. While it won’t cost you any points on your driving test, it may give the examiner a reason to become more critical of your driving.
The reason that many examiners may not like the radio on during the exam is that fiddling with the radio is one of the leading causes of distracted driving and related accidents. So, keep the radio at an acceptable level during your test and when driving on your own.
Even better, use hands-free radio controls, such as buttons on the steering wheel or voice-activated commands, whenever possible. This can drastically curb your chances of getting in an accident in the future.
When in doubt, ask the examiner if you can have the radio on at a low level. This will demonstrate some respect, as well as determine whether your examiner finds the radio acceptable during the exam.
