Need home, small business, or life insurance? State Farm has you covered! With these types of insurance, you won’t usually need to provide proof of insurance. But if you’re looking for State Farm
car insurance
, you’ll need an insurance card anytime you hit the road. In this guide, we’ll take a closer look at how to get one and why you’ll need an insurance ID card.

How to get your State Farm auto insurance ID card

Need your State Farm insurance card? You can easily download a copy from your online account or request one through email. As a policyholder, you can also access a digital insurance card through the State Farm Mobile App.

What’s included on your State Farm insurance card

As proof of financial responsibility, your State Farm ID card demonstrates that you’ve purchased the minimum required insurance coverage in compliance with your state’s law.
Here’s everything your State Farm insurance card shows:
  • The name and address of your insurance providers
  • Your insurance provider’s NAIC (National Association of Insurance Commissioners) number
  • Your full name
  • Your vehicle’s make, model, and vehicle identification number (VIN)
  • The effective date of your insurance policy
  • The expiration date of your insurance policy
Need to access your deductible or coverage limits? You’ll find this particular insurance information on your
declarations page
. Don’t confuse this with your insurance card—your declarations page is not considered proof of insurance.

Can you show proof of insurance on your phone?

Most states allow motorists to show electronic proof of insurance via mobile phone during traffic stops—unless you live in
New Mexico
. If you get stopped by law enforcement, you can show the officer proof of insurance with your insurance ID card through the State Farm Mobile App
But State Farm isn’t the only insurance company to jump on the mobile bandwagon. Other top insurance providers, including
Allstate
,
GEICO
, and
Progressive
, also use digital ID cards alongside physical insurance identification cards. With a State Farm policy, you can quickly and easily show proof of insurance through your mobile device.
