Nationwide has affordable
motorcycle insurance
and offers add-ons for OEM coverage and coverage for vintage bikes, but lacks as many options as other companies.
Do you know what they never mentioned in the 1969 film, Easy Rider? The kind of motorcycle insurance those guys had. Now that we mention it, they probably didn’t have any at all, but you shouldn’t follow suit—so read on for a look at the motorcycle insurance coverage available from Nationwide.

Does Nationwide offer motorcycle insurance?

Yes! In addition to their other kinds of policies, Nationwide also sells motorcycle insurance.
The specific types of motorcycles that Nationwide will cover include:
  • Classic motorcycles (25 years or older)
  • Mopeds
  • Scooters
  • Dirt bikes
  • Customized cycles
  • Sport bikes
  • Touring bikes
  • Tikes and auto cycles
That’s a lot of bikes! However, Nationwide does not offer motorcycle coverage in the following states:
  • Alaska
  • Hawaii
  • Louisiana
  • Massachusetts
  • New Jersey
  • New Mexico
  • Oklahoma
  • Washington, D.C.

It varies according to state and the rider, but the average cost for Nationwide motorcycle insurance is about $600 per year.
Things like your demographic, your motorcycle, your driving history, and how your bike will be primarily used all factor into how much you’ll pay for coverage. Prices also vary drastically by location and the amount of coverage you select.

Coverage options

Nationwide’s coverage doesn’t have as many bell-and-whistle options as some other providers, but you can still get a solid
policy. Nationwide offers a few features that some companies don’t, like coverage for vintage bikes and OEM policies. However, they don’t offer common coverages like
gap insurance
rental reimbursement
The table below gives an overview of Nationwide’s motorcycle coverage:
Included automatically?
Do I need it?
Covers other people’s medical costs if you’re involved in an at-fault accident.
You don’t stop in time and run into a pedestrian in the crosswalk. This provides payment for their medical expenses (up to your policy limit.)
Very likely, as this is required in most states.
This pays for others’ property damage in the event of an accident where you’re at fault.
You run a stop sign and crash into a car, denting its side panel. This policy pays for the repairs.
Laws vary by state, but most require it.
Covers losses in a wide variety of incidents including theft, storm damage, and more.
Some jerk pinched your bike! With this coverage, you’ll get paid the value of your stolen ride.
Not required, but offers a broad range of protection and is wise coverage (unless your bike isn’t worth a lot).
Pays for repairs to your bike if it’s damaged in any kind of collision.
You accidentally hit a light pole and damage your front wheel—this pays for repairs.
It’s not required, but it’s good coverage if your bike is worth a decent amount of money.
Covers your medical bills (and possibly more) if you’re in an accident caused by an uninsured driver.
If you’re hit by an uninsured driver, you’d be looking at paying out of pocket for your damages or pursuing legal action to recoup them—unless you have this coverage.
This coverage is optional in some states but required in others.
This covers medical bills for you and possibly your passengers, no matter who was at fault.
You dump your bike on a sharp turn and break an arm—these policies help to cover your various medical expenses.
PIP is required in some states, and this coverage is a wise investment for any rider.
Custom equipment
Covers replacements for custom and aftermarket parts if they’re damaged due to a covered event.
Your pricey bespoke handlebars got turned into a pretzel in a crash—but with this policy, you can get them replaced.
$3,000 is automatically included with comprehensive coverage, with an available limit of $30,000.
If you’ve invested in a lot of aftermarket accessories or customizations, you should make sure you have the right coverage for it.
OEM parts
Covers repairs with OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts whenever available, available for vehicles less than 10 years old.
No aftermarket parts on your baby! And if an OEM part isn’t available, you’ll be paid the fair market value of the missing part.
If you’re particular about the parts used on your bike, then you might want this coverage.
Roadside assistance with optional trip interruption
Covers towing and basic roadside assistance like jumpstarts or tire changes—two different tiers are offered depending on how many features you want.
Your solo bike ride to the country takes a turn when your bike breaks down. This policy makes sure you can get a tow truck, and a hotel (if you have trip interruption) if you’re more than 100 miles from home.
If you take a lot of road trips (especially long ones) this is worthwhile coverage to have.
