How to get your Nationwide auto insurance ID card

When you register for Nationwide insurance, you should receive an email containing your insurance ID card to print at home. You can also have the company mail you your insurance ID card. Alternatively, you can access your ID card online through
Nationwide’s website
, or through the Nationwide mobile app.
To access your ID card on Nationwide’s website,
  • Log into your Nationwide account
  • Click “ID Cards & Documents”
  • Under “Auto Policy Details,” select “View/Print ID Card”
When you receive the ID card through your email or through the website, it is a good idea to download and print a copy for easy access when you need it.

What’s included on your Nationwide insurance card

You can use a Nationwide insurance ID card to provide proof of financial responsibility, proving that you have at least the minimum required insurance coverage for your state. Your ID card won’t show you the details of your insurance coverage, but it will show:
  • The name and address of your insurance company
  • The company’s NAIC (National Association of Insurance Commissioners) number
  • Your first and last name
  • Your car’s make, model, and vehicle identification number (VIN)
  • The effective date and expiration date of your policy
If you want to see more information about your insurance policy–like the exact coverage on your policy, policy limits, and insurance deductible–you’ll need to look at your insurance
declaration page
. Note that you cannot use your insurance declaration page as proof of insurance.

Can you show proof of insurance on your phone?

In every state except
New Mexico
, you can use an electronic version of your insurance ID card as proof of insurance. If you download the Nationwide app, you can have quick access to your insurance ID on the app and hand over your phone during a traffic stop or at the DMV.
Most major insurance companies including
GEICO
,
Allstate
, and
State Farm
, make digital ID cards available on their app or website. With Nationwide, you have the option of carrying a printed slip or using a digital version.
