  • Date of birth
  • Principal residence in Hawaii
A limited purpose license’s validity is as follows:

  • 2 years for licensees aged 72 years and older

What is an SR-22 certificate?

If your driver’s license in Hawaii has been suspended or revoked, you might need to apply for SR-22 coverage in order to get your license reinstated. SR-22 coverage acts as legal proof of insurance that your insurer provides to Hawaii’s Department of Transportation confirming you meet the state's minimum auto insurance requirements.
If you are required to carry SR-22 coverage, you will need to have it for at least three years.
You may be required to buy SR-22 insurance in Hawaii under the following circumstances:
  • DUI/DWI
  • Driving without insurance
  • Reckless driving
  • Refusing a breathalyzer test
  • Multiple traffic violations
  • An at-fault accident causing injury or death
Your insurance provider will file for an SR-22 on your behalf, usually for a small fee. Do know that carrying SR-22 coverage will result in a significant premium hike.
