What’s included on your Erie insurance card

The main purpose of your Erie insurance card is to prove financial responsibility on the road by showing that you have purchased at least your
state’s minimum liability coverage
. Your card won’t spell out your exact policy details, but it will include:
  • The name and address of your insurance provider (i.e. Erie)
  • Your insurance provider’s NAIC (National Association of Insurance Commissioners) number
  • Your first and last name
  • Your vehicle’s make, model, and vehicle identification number (VIN)
  • Your policy’s effective date and expiration date
You can find more information about your policy, like deductibles and coverage limits, on your
declarations page
. Keep in mind that even though your declarations page holds a lot of specific information about your auto insurance policy, it will not be accepted as proof of insurance.

Can you show proof of insurance on your phone?

You can show digital proof of insurance on your phone during a traffic stop in every state except
New Mexico
. If you own an auto insurance policy in any of the other 49 states, good news—you can show your insurance card on your Erie app if you ever need to present proof of insurance.
Nearly every major insurance company, including
State Farm
,
Progressive
, and
Farmers
make both digital insurance cards and traditional physical ID cards available to their members. When you have a policy with Erie, you, too, will be able to show proof of insurance with one of these cards as well.
