The 2022 Hyundai Elantra has a trio of available engine options, from a sedate 147-horsepower base model to a turbocharged 201-horsepower affair. A hybrid model is available as well for those who want the best mix of power and fuel efficiency.
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra brought some unique styling to the realm of the affordable compact sedan with its futuristic looks and spiffy available tech. Buyers have the choice of three engines and six trim levels, but only the N Line trim offers any real driving pep.

2022 Hyundai Elantra horsepower

The performance that you can expect from your 2022 Elantra depends on the powertrain that you choose—and you’ve got three options to contemplate.
The baseline engine is a 2.0-liter inline-four cylinder that generates 147 horsepower @ 6,200 rpm and 132 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm. This will get you where you need to go, but it’s going to be a fairly bland affair. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, mind you—it’s just not going to provide any thrills.
If you want a hybrid 2022 Elantra, you can get that by way of a 1.6-liter, inline four-cylinder hybrid powertrain. This brings 139 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. While this also brings you some exciting fuel economy at a combined 50 mpg, it won’t exactly quicken anyone’s pulse with its accelerational oomph.
For the sassiest 2022 Elantra experience, the
N Line
trim level is the one to go for. With its 1.6-liter, turbocharged inline four-cylinder under the hood, you’ll have 201 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm and 195 lb-ft of torque @ 1,500 rpm to play around with. The N Line also has the option of a manual transmission if you’re the kind who likes to be more connected to your engine.
The 2022 Hyundai Elantra starts between $21,245 and $29,645, which makes it an affordable option as well. As a side note, we'll give a passing mention to the Hyundai Elantra N—Elantra’s cool, sporty cousin. This boisterous model gets you up to 276 horsepower and still comes with an affordable price tag—but that’s a story for another day.
