For the 2020 model year, the classic
Chevrolet
Corvette got an incredible mid-engine redesign. It has continued to gain more exterior colors and sporty enhancements since then, appealing to drivers of all kinds. The latest 2023 model
is better than ever
with a luxurious and sporty 70th Anniversary trim.
Even without all these fancy additions, the 2020 example is still one of the best Corvettes available. Before its release, critics like
Car and Driver
were worried that it wouldn't live up to the hype. Fortunately, this long-awaited Corvette exceeded the expectations of many.

What you should know about the 2020 Chevy Corvette

The base 2020 Corvette comes powered by a V8 that produces 490 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. It's the only engine option available, but the Z51 Performance package raises both power specs by five points each. Each Corvette also has a dual-clutch eight-speed automatic gearbox and RWD.
The optional performance group includes a performance suspension, performance exhaust, Brembo brakes, an upgraded engine cooling system, and a unique rear splitter. With the Z51 upgrade, C/D test drivers were able to hit the 60 mph mark a few hairs below three seconds. While it undeniably handles like a racecar, testers found that the steering wheel was still easy to control.
The Touring driving mode softens the suspension so that you can cruise around town comfortably. Unfortunately, the snarling engine note all but disappears when you use the Corvette for everyday driving. The steering in this mode also feels less engaging compared to other sports cars.
Still, the Chevy Corvette has a bit more utility compared to its rivals. Both the coupe and convertible body styles come with nearly 13 cubic feet of trunk space. Cabin space is also above average for the segment, and that's complemented by incredibly comfortable seats.

While Chevy isn't a luxury brand, many compare the Corvette to luxury sports cars due to its character and price. In terms of power, it actually beats the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S and its 443-horsepower twin-turbo engine. The 911 was also nearly double the 2020 Corvette's asking price.
The 2020 Lexus LC 500 almost matches the Corvette's power output, but it yields slower acceleration times. The 2020 Audi R8 is more powerful with 562 horsepower and AWD, but was over $100,000 extra upon release.
The 2020 Corvette was even able to outdo the legendary Lamborghini Huracan in some areas. According to
Motor1
, it was quicker during initial acceleration and doing hot laps around the test track.
Considering its exceptional abilities, the 2020 Chevy Corvette is truly a great entry point into the world of luxury sports cars. Given that the Corvette only seems to go up in value, it's also an excellent investment.
