Why are credit unions and dealerships linked as far as car financing?

Why do car dealers partner with credit unions? I've been shopping around for cars at dealerships and I noticed that many dealers partner with credit unions.

Dealers and credit unions have a program called Credit Union Direct Lending (CUDL) that many dealers participate in.
Through this program, dealers can find you competitive rates while credit unions get your business. It’s a win-win for both parties and for you finding the best rate.”
