It sure was! Suzuki was founded in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Japan by Michio Suzuki.
The company began in October 1909, when Suzuki incorporated the company as Suzuki Loom Works, making—you guessed it—looms! The company didn’t get into motor manufacturing until 1952 when it started making 36-cc bicycle motors.
In 1954, the company changed its name to Suzuki Motor Co. Ltd. and started producing motorcycles and cars—and the rest is history!
