Despite some hybrid offerings like the S-Cross SUV and Ignis city car,
Suzuki
doesn’t have any electric cars on the market as of 2022. However, there are some plans brewing for the launch of Suzuki’s first pure-electric car by 2025.
Although Suzuki is the 11th largest automaker in the world, its cars are no longer sold in the United States. With markets booming in India, Japan, and Europe, drivers have gotten behind Suzuki’s modern designs and models for decades since the manufacturer made a splash with motorcycles in 1952. With newer technology behind each new configuration, Suzuki is ready to gear up for an all-new electric vehicle in the next few years.

How to decide if going electric is right for you

You have a couple of years to decide if you want a purely electric Suzuki in your garage, and before you hand over the downpayment, it’s wise to consider the following questions:
  • Are charging stations accessible near you? Charging your car at home works for the most part, but you’ll want to be able to give it some juice on the go, too.
  • What kind of mileage are you planning to put on it? Excessive commutes might take a toll on your EV if they exceed its range—especially 200-300-mile drives. If your needs are within a safe EV distance, then it could be a great choice for you.
  • Do you have a garage? Not only will you want to have a home charging station handy, but you won’t want to park your precious EV on the street if that’s your only option.
  • Is towing capacity a high priority? Suzuki cars can typically tow up to 4,000 lb depending on the model, but an EV might not cut it if you’re someone who hauls cargo.
While lower operating costs, rebates and incentives, and quiet driving are some pros of being an EV owner, governments in countries where Suzukis are sold also offer subsidies like India’s Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME-II) program. Ownership of a four-wheel EV grants drivers of 1.5 lakh (around USD 2,000).
That’s not to mention the environmental benefits that come along with an electric ride, which is an initiative just about anyone can get behind.

Suzuki’s electric future

By 2025, Suzuki has plans to cruise into the EV world, starting with its hub in India. Once the new model is rolled out, it’ll hit the Japanese and European markets.
Although there aren’t many details released about Suzuki’s electric launch, it’s been said that it will likely be a compact car, which the manufacturer is known for. There have also been whispers that the EV’s price will land somewhere around the equivalent of USD 11,000, making it an affordable option for future electric drivers.
