Where is the BMW X6 made?

I’m visiting the USA and heard a ghastly rumor that the BMW X6 is built here…and not in Germany. As a proud Bavarian and staunch defender of German automotive prowess, please ease my worried mind and reassure me that the X6 is actually made in the home of schnitzel and Deutschmarks. Where is the BMW X6 manufactured?

Sorry to break your heart, but the BMW X6 is indeed made in the USA at BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. In fact, BMW’s entire global supply of X6, X5, Z4, and M coupe vehicles are built here.
The Spartanburg plant acts as a body shop, paint shop, and assembly line for these vehicles. The engines and transmissions for the X6 and these other vehicles are not built in South Carolina, but it likely won’t ease your heartache as those power plants are built at BMW’s plant in Austria.
BMW’s Spartanburg plant covers more than 1,100 acres and employs more than 4,600 workers. Between 300 and 330 vehicles are built every shift, and the Spartanburg plant delivers roughly 240,000 BMW vehicles each year.
