Which highways should I take between New York and Arizona? I’m driving down for my sister’s wedding and I’m trying to make sure that I time everything right.

 to Arizona by car is via I-40 West. The major highways you’ll use on this trip are, in order:
  • I-78 West
  • I-81 South
  • I-76 West
  • I-70 West
  • I-44 West
  • I-40 West
  • AZ-377 South
Following this route will get you from New York to Arizona in about 35 hours, depending on traffic. This means that you’ll have to stop for the night at least five times to drive safely—so you’ll likely spend a lot more money by driving than you would by flying.
