What speed is considered reckless driving in South Dakota?

I’m driving through South Dakota this summer on my way to visit Mount Rushmore. A friend of mine told me that there’s not a lot to see in the central and eastern portions of the state, so I thought I’d make better time by driving a bit faster. I’m just worried about the long arm of the law. Is there a speed that’s considered reckless driving in South Dakota?

South Dakota
, excessive speeding can result in a reckless driving charge. Ultimately, it’s up to the judgment of the officer who pulls you over.
South Dakota’s law defines reckless driving as any operation of a motor vehicle that displays negligent or intentional disregard for others or their property, including operation without use of due caution, as well as acts encompassing excessive speed to the point of endangering others.
If you’re charged with reckless driving in South Dakota, it counts as a Class 1 misdemeanor that stays on your permanent record. Furthermore, you face penalties including:
  • Up to one year in jail
