What Should I Wear to a Driving Test?

I’m taking my practical driving test next week, and my parents are insisting I pick the right outfit to take it in. I never really thought about wearing the right clothes for a driving test before, but now I’m not sure what they would be. What should I wear for my driving test?

The good news is that you’re not going to fail your driving test if you show up in shorts and a tanktop — a driving test is not an interview. But there are certain clothes you should avoid wearing for a driving test that are simply common sense.
As an overall guideline, wear clothes that are comfortable and well-fitted. Avoid anything that’s particularly tight that can restrict your movement, or can be distracting. You won’t be able to do much adjusting while on the move — your examiner isn’t going to be too impressed if you let go of the steering wheel to pull down a hem.
While many people believe that it’s illegal to drive while barefoot, or wearing flip-flops or high heels, there are actually no laws on the books pertaining to footwear while driving. But that having been said, flip-flops, heels, and stiff shoes should be avoided.
You control one of the most important
safety features
in the car with your foot: the brakes. Your feet should not risk getting caught on pedals or floor mats. And they should be able to move freely and comfortably, so your test isn’t the ideal time to break in a new pair of shoes.
Once you’ve passed (congratulations!), it’s time to
add yourself onto your parents’ insurance
, or to find your own policy! In either case,
