, remove the valve stem cap on your tire, and insert the gauge into the valve stem. The gauge will show you the pressure of the tire so you know how much air to release or add. You can also check your tire pressure at a gas station air filling station, which will have a pressure gauge to use.

Your i3 may not always let you know when your tire pressure is low, so keep an eye out for other signs, like shaky steering, reduced performance, or an uneven ride.

How to reset the BMW i3 tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) light

So you’ve fixed your tire pressure, but your BMW i3’s tire pressure light isn’t turning off. Don’t fret! It’s just time to

reset your TPMS

—and with BMW’s iDrive system, it’s super easy.

Starting at the home menu, select “car.” Then go to vehicle status, tire pressure monitor, then tire settings. While your i3 is running (but stopped and in Park), select “perform reset.”

After that, just take a short drive to complete the TPMS reset process. Since the BMW i3’s TPMS measures any rotational speed differences rather than actual inflation pressure, it may take up to 20 minutes for the sensors to gauge the updated tire pressure.

If your i3 doesn’t have iDrive, follow these steps instead:

1. After you inflate your tires to the proper tire pressure, start your engine.

2. Toggle your turn signal lever up and down until the TPMS and REST lights are displayed on your gauge cluster.

3. Locate the button on the end of your turn signal handle, holding it down until a checkmark or “resetting” is displayed.

4. Complete the reset by driving your i3 for 20 minutes at a minimum of 20 mph.

If your i3 has a “TPMS reset” button under your hazard light button or in front of the gear selector, just hold that down until the TPMS light goes off before driving for 20 minutes.
