Overall, the Jeep Wrangler isn’t exactly considered a safe vehicle—the 2022 model gets an overall Marginal rating (the second lowest) from the International Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). If you’re looking for the safest Jeep Wrangler model, you may be better off looking for a used model with a better safety rating.
Here are the Jeep Wrangler’s IIHS overall ratings by model year and configuration:
- 1997–2006 two-door Wrangler: Good (top rating)
- 2007–2017 two-door Wrangler: Marginal
- 2007–2017 four-door Wrangler: Good
- 2008–2022 four-door Wrangler: Marginal
Based on these ratings, the safest Jeep Wrangler models are two-door Wranglers from 1997 to 2006 and four-door Wranglers from 2007 to 2017. The 2023 Wrangler has not yet been evaluated for safety, but it’s likely to score similarly to the 2022 Wrangler.
