What is the BMW 650i’s oil type?

I got a great deal on a BMW 650i on Autotrader, so I’m pretty excited about my new car. I’ve changed the oil on European cars before, so I decided I’ll do the same on this one. What type of oil do I need for a BMW 650i?

If you want to change the oil on this sports car masterpiece, the
BMW 650i
takes either SAE 5W-30 or SAE 5W-40 motor oil. Which type you choose depends on the model year:
  • For 2016 or newer model years, use 5W-40
  • If you have a 2015 or earlier model, fill it with 5W-30.
In either case, you’re going to need 10 quarts of motor oil to complete the oil change due to the sizable and powerful 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine. Full synthetic is preferred, but you can use a European synthetic oil made by companies such as Mobil 1, Pennzoil, or STP.
