background
The most common problems to befall the 2020 Buick Envision are vehicle speed control issues, the side airbags not deploying, and an issue with the powertrain causing the Envision to turn off without being switched into park mode. An issue with the SaferCar app was also documented.
The Buick Envision, a demure but capable SUV, offers a comfortable and smooth driving experience, even if it's a bit wanting in the power department. It’s also for the most part a dependable vehicle and a great example of Made-in-America excellence expected by Buick consumers.
But the Envision isn’t without its problems.

The most common 2020 Buick Envision problems

The good news is that there have been zero recalls for the 2020 Buick Envision—hooray! And while there have been just four documented problems for this quiet and comfortable SUV so far, they are worth outlining in order to give drivers a heads up in case they happen again.
The first issue that cropped up with the 2020 Envision was a vehicle speed control problem. As reported to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2020 Envision has been documented unexpectedly accelerating, without any warning from the instrument panel. After this occurred, and the Envision crashed into a building, the airbags did not deploy
A second issue was documented with the 2020 Envision, this time relating to the airbags directly, more specifically to the side airbags. In one instance reported to the NHTSA, the Envision’s side airbags failed to deploy after the vehicle was hit by a truck while driving at 35 miles per hour. The Envision had approximately 20,000 miles on its odometer at the time of this incident.
A third significant issue relating to the 2020 Buick Envision is an issue with its powertrain. As reported to the NHTSA, the 2020 Envision was documented having the ignition switched off and the key removed without the vehicle being put into park. The Envision in question was also noted to shift into neutral independently, creating a risk of the vehicle rolling away on its own.
The only other documented issue with the 2020 Envision was a problem with the SaferCar app, where the app didn’t recognize the vehicle identification number (VIN) of the registered user.

Is the 2020 Buick Envision reliable?

Despite the issues covered above, the 2020 Buick Envision is considered a relatively reliable vehicle, even if there are some discrepancies over its reliability rating.
RepairPal gives the Buick brand just a 3.5/5 reliability rating, with an average yearly cost of just over $600. However, even though the Envision isn’t specifically rated by RepairPal, the site does note that the average annual repair bill for the Envision itself is just $233, indicating that it is likely much more reliable than the average Buick.
JD Power’s rating for the 2020 Envision bears this out. The Envision gets a very solid 87/100 reliability rating from JD Power, indicating that the 2020 Envision’s lack of documented problems isn’t likely a fluke—the Buick Envision is an overall reliable vehicle.
