What is an anti-lock brake?

What are anti-lock brakes? Is that some kind of extra feature you can order? I’ve heard the term before, but I don’t have any idea what it means.

Anti-Lock Braking Systems (ABS) are the standard form of brakes in all cars nowadays. It’s not an extra feature. All cars come equipped with ABS—it’s a legal requirement.
What ABS actually do is automatically pump the brake peddles to ensure they don’t lock up—giving you better control when you drive and greatly reducing the danger if you need to slam on the brakes suddenly.
If, for some reason, your car doesn’t have ABS, you’ll need to have it installed right away—cars without ABS can be very dangerous. That’s going to be pricey, so you can save yourself some money on
