What does 25k/50k/25k mean in my car insurance policy?

I’m shopping for insurance, and agents keep telling me I need to purchase 25/50/25 coverage. What does that mean?

25k/50k/25k in reference to
car insurance
means you need to purchase a
liability insurance
policy with at least the following payout limits:
  • $25,000 in bodily injury liability per person
  • $50,000 in bodily injury liability per accident
  • $25,000 in
    property damage liability
    per accident.
Keep in mind: Purchasing just the minimum car insurance required in your state will ensure other drivers are covered if you cause an accident. But to protect your finances whether you’re at fault or not, you should consider carrying more than just the minimum, as well as
comprehensive
and
collision coverage
.
