What causes a 2014 GMC Sierra ticking noise?

My 2014 GMC Sierra has been great to me since I bought it off the lot. However, it recently developed this weird, annoying ticking noise that’s been driving me nuts. What could be the cause of this type of noise?

**Ticking noises in a 2014 GMC Sierra are most commonly caused by lifter issues. The lifter is a part that sits between the cylinder valves and a car’s camshaft that allows the valve to open. When the lifter begins to fail, it can often make a ticking noise that’s consistent as long as the engine is in motion—driving, idling, or otherwise.
If fixing that doesn’t solve the issue, some other components to check are:
  • Loose spark plugs
  • Loose exhaust bolts
  • Low oil pressure
Unfortunately, fixing a lifter issue isn’t exactly cheap. It runs from about $1,000 to $2,500. This isn’t really due to the price of the part; reaching the lifters in most vehicles is just insanely time-consuming, which causes you to rack up a ton of labor charges.
