How can I travel with a baby without a car seat?
We’re flying with our baby for the first time, but we’re not planning to bring a car seat. I know about the babe-in-arms thing on the plane, but what should we do about driving around at our destination? Is it possible to travel with a baby without a car seat?

First, you need to know that almost every state requires infants to be in car seats. It’s the only safe way to travel. While it’s not a requirement on airplanes, many parents like having one for their

as a safety precaution. If you do not plan to bring a car seat with you, here are some ways to keep your baby safe:
- Uber Family: In select cities, Uber offers car seats in rideshare vehicles.
- Public transit: Buses, trains, and the subway do not require car seats for children. Opt for public transportation if you cannot bring a car seat on your trip.
- Taxis: It’s legal in most places for a baby to travel via taxi without a car seat. However, this should be a last resort as no car seat means no protection in the event of a crash.
- Borrow a car seat on arrival: Consider renting a car seat from a baby gear shop, friends, or family at your destination.
- Hire a private driver: If you are visiting a destination where this is affordable, consider hiring a private driver (with a car seat) for your trip. Your peace of mind will be 100% worth it!
