Is Delaware a no-fault state?

Is Delaware a no-fault state, or will I need to pay the medical bills of a family that I got into an accident with? My insurance isn’t great so I’m a little worried.

Yes, Delaware is a no-fault state. Rather than assigning fault and using it to determine responsibility for the accident’s resulting financial burden, Delaware insurance laws require residents to carry
personal injury protection (PIP)
.
This means that even if you cause a car accident, everyone involved is responsible for covering their own medical expenses up to the limit of their own insurance policy. With PIP, all parties will have some immediate coverage, regardless of fault. Your bodily injury liability coverage will kick in once their PIP limits are exhausted.
If you or your frequent passengers do not have health insurance or have a high deductible health insurance policy, it is a good idea to increase your PIP coverage so that you don’t have to worry about medical expenses from a car accident. One less thing to worry about is always good!
