How to Open the Hood on A Jeep Liberty
I want to save money by changing my Jeep Liberty’s oil at home, but I can’t get the hood to pop even when I press the safety latch. What am I missing?

Opening your
Jeep Liberty’s
hood is actually a two-step process, which could explain why you’re having some trouble! Luckily, it’s very simple. To open the hood on a Jeep Liberty, here’s what you’ll do:
- Locate the hood release lever, usually found on the left-hand side of the instrument panel underneath your dashboard. Look down by your feet on the driver’s side of your vehicle
- The hood release lever will have an icon of a car with the hood popped, making it easily identifiable
- Pull the lever
- Get out of the car and locate the vehicle safety latch between your Jeep’s grill and hood opening (slightly left of the center of the hood)
- Push the safety latch lever to the right to open the hood
Now all you have to do is lift the hood and prop it open—your Jeep should have a prop rod to help you do this! With your hood open, you can easily access your car’s oil tank to perform routine maintenance.
