How much will it cost to fix a vacuum leak in my car?

My Check Engine light came on last month, and now vacuum sounds are coming from my engine. After researching, I know it is a vacuum leak in my car. I’ve been putting off taking my car to the mechanic because it is driving fine, and I don’t have the money to repair it. How much will it cost to fix a vacuum leak in my car?

Depending on the cause and location of the leak it can cost between $150 and $1,000 to repair a leak in your vacuum system. While it can be tempting to put off repairs when they don’t cause driveability issues, you should promptly take your car to a mechanic to avoid engine failure.
Here are some common causes of vacuum leaks:
  • Ripped or cracked intake snorkel
  • Warped manifold gasket
  • Brittle plastic and rubber vacuum hoses and lines
  • Stuck EGR valve
Once your mechanic determines the cause of the vacuum leak, you can get an accurate estimate of repair costs. Fixing it now will save you money in the long run because the problem will only get worse and could cause damage to other parts of the car.
