How much is it to transfer a car in PA?

How much will it cost me to transfer a car in Pennsylvania? I'm bargaining with a potential buyer over the price of my car and I want to make sure the price covers my title transfer fees.

Answer
It costs $53 to transfer a car title in Pennsylvania. But you won’t need to worry about the fee if you’re selling. The buyer is responsible for paying the title fee.
The only extra costs the seller incurs are notary fees and taxes. Pennsylvania has a 6% sales tax on all vehicle sales. Even if you were to sell the car to a family member below market value, the department of revenue has the right to review the transaction and charge you accordingly.
If you really want to save on your expenses, consider dropping some of your insurance coverage. As the seller, you’re liable for the car until it’s transferred. But if you aren’t driving it, you may only need to carry your state’s minimum required insurance in the meantime.
Contact your insurance provider to ask about your options. If you feel their rates are too high, you can always use Jerry to explore other options. A licensed broker, the Jerry app can help you find and compare competitive quotes from top insurance companies in minutes.
