The maximum number of mistakes you can make on the Florida
Class E Knowledge Exam is 10. As for the Class E Driving Skills Test, you’re permitted a small number of minor mistakes, but there are several major errors that could result in immediate failure. Let’s say you show up for the knowledge test and pass with 80%, the minimum grade necessary. You need proof of registration, proof of insurance, and a working vehicle to start the driving skills test, or you might not even get a chance to fail.
Once you and the driving examiner are seated in your car, avoid these major mistakes:
Failure to stop at a red light or a stop sign
Striking another car (while parking or driving)
The FLHSMV is purposefully vague about how many mistakes you can make before you fail, but it’s safe to say a major moving violation will result in immediate disqualification.
If you don’t pass the driving test, the examiner will tell you what you did wrong afterward. Even if you’re crushed by the news, listen closely. You can ask questions, take notes, and learn exactly how to pass the test the next time—mistakes are only mistakes if you don’t learn from them!
Retaking the test costs $20. Good luck and don’t be too hard on yourself if you don’t pass on your first try!
