Texas
, car accidents remain on your driving record for 3 years.
The Texas DMV employs a point-based system called the Driver Responsibility Program (DRP). This program assesses points and surcharges for both Texas and out-of-state moving violations as follows:
  • Convictions for traffic violations: 2 points
  • Convictions for traffic violations that result in a crash: 3 points
  • Drivers who accumulate six or more points on their driving record will be assessed an annual surcharge by the Texas Department of Safety (DPS)
  • 1 point will be deducted from your driving record for each consecutive 12-month period in which no points are added to your record
Since your conviction resulted in an accident, you received 3 points on your record. As long as you don’t accrue any additional convictions, these points will be fully deducted from your record in two more years.
