How long does a clutch last?

I just bought my first manual car used, and I think the clutch might need to be replaced. How often should I expect this to happen?

On average, the clutch in a vehicle can last for 20,000 to 150,000 miles, depending on the exact car you’re driving. Some signs that your clutch might be failing include:
  • The pedal feels soft or spongy when you press it down.
  • The car slips out of gear. This may be accompanied by a burning smell.
  • You experience trouble shifting gears.
  • You hear
    strange noises
coming from your car, particularly when you press the clutch.
  • Your clutch gets stuck from time to time.
If you notice any of these problems, it’s time to visit the mechanic so you don’t get stranded by the side of the road with a bad clutch.
Besides taking your car to the mechanic when issues arise, you can also protect your vehicle from unexpected events by choosing the right car insurance coverage. Download the
