How long do you have to wait to retake the driving test?
I’m mortified to say this, but I failed my driving test. I’m dying to get my license. How long do I have to wait until I can retake my driving test?

Oh, no! I’m sorry to hear you didn’t pass your test. Not to worry! The amount of time you’ll have to wait to retake your driving test varies by state—but many states allow you to retake the test the very next day.
Here are examples of the retake rules in a few states for a frame of reference:
- Texas: you can retest the very next day
- California: you’ll need to wait two weeks to retake your test
- Vermont: you’ll need to wait for one week to retake your test
Be sure to check your state’s specific laws about retesting. In some states, if you fail three times within 90 days, you may have to wait for one year before testing again.
