How long can I wait to file a car insurance claim?

My car was broken into. I haven't gotten my window repaired yet and my friend suggested I submit a claim to my insurance. It happened two weeks ago. How long do I have to file a car insurance claim?

“Someone breaking into your car is an unfortunate and terrible situation, but you may save some money by submitting a claim to your insurance.
While most
car insurance companies
state you should submit your claim immediately, you typically have 30 to 60 days to do so.
Since your claim is for a broken window, confirm that you have full glass coverage or
comprehensive coverage
on your policy.
Both coverages would cover a broken window claim, as long as your comprehensive deductible is less than the cost of replacing the window.
To confirm the coverage on your policy, look at your
policy declaration page
or call your insurance company. Either will provide you with more information on your coverage and if they can help fix your window.
If you don’t have full glass or comprehensive coverage and want to add it, consider comparison shopping first. Changing your coverage will alter your rates, so exploring your options is a smart decision.
If you want to save money on new coverage, the

app is a good place to start. As a licensed broker, Jerry does all the hard work of finding the cheapest quotes from reputable insurance companies and buying new car insurance. Jerry will even cancel your old policy for you.”
