How far is Atlanta from New York driving?

I want to head south for a while this winter but I’d still like to be in a city. How far is Atlanta from New York by car?

Atlanta
is a fantastic choice for a southern getaway, and a great
road trip
destination, too! Atlanta is about 850 miles and 13 and a half hours from New York, depending on the route you prefer. Here are your options:
  • Take I-95 South to I-85 South (with tolls): 865 miles/13 hours and 15 minutes
  • Take I-95 South to US-29 South then I-85 South (with tolls): 849 miles/13 hours and 30 minutes
  • Take I-78 West to I-81 South then I-77 South to I-85 South (no tolls): 878 miles/13 hours and 45 minutes
Avoiding tolls will only add about 30 minutes to your trip, but taking a detour down US-29 South with tolls is the most direct and fuel-efficient route. Both routes take more time, but either can help you save a little money for your
cross-country road trip
.
