How far can you drive on empty?

My buddy loves to claim he drove over an hour while on empty one time. Personally, I have my doubts—but if he did, that does seem like a good way to save a little bit of money. Is it even possible to drive that long on empty? How far can you usually drive without gas?

Great question! Your buddy definitely might be exaggerating a bit—it’s unlikely and highly doubtful that he drove that long on empty, but it all depends on how far he went.
Most popular car models can travel approximately 30 to 50 miles after the
gas light
turns on.
So while it’s possible that your friend drove for over an hour, it definitely would have been at a very slow pace!
Although saving money on gas is always admirable, driving on empty is not the best way to do so. Instead, check out the
