How do you use plug adapters for charging the battery in an electric car?

I’m going on a long road trip in a few weeks, and many of my friends have Tesla just like me! However, a couple of my friends have other EVs, and I’m wondering if I’ll be able to charge my Tesla at their house. Is it possible to use plug adapters for charging the battery in my electric car?

It is very possible! And that’s great to hear that so many of your loved ones are a part of the
EV revolution
!
Tesla’s network of chargers aka Superchargers uses a proprietary plug. It’s a great idea to carry an adapter or two in your car in case you’re in a pinch.
Here’s what we know about plug adapters for charging an EV battery:
  • Level 1 and Level 2 chargers use SAE J1772 plug types, commonly known as J-Plugs.
  • Plug adapters can connect Tesla to J-Plug and J-Plug to Tesla. Note that these adapters won’t work with Supercharging or DCFC.
  • Typically, it’s best to plug your adapter (like a Tesla J1772 Adapter) into your connector_ first_, then plug the entire connected unit into your car.
  • Popular adapter brands on Amazon include Lectron, Dasanrao, Inteset, and Megear.
Now that you know how easy it is to use an adapter to charge your Tesla on your trip, why make shopping for car insurance so difficult? If you’d rather leave the hard work of gathering quotes to someone else, use the
