How do you reset a BMW service engine light?

I took my car to the mechanic yesterday, and his new guy did most of the work. He did a great job but forgot to reset my service light. How can I reset the service engine warning on a BMW?

If you’re certain you’re up-to-date on oil changes and all your fluids are topped off, you can reset a
BMW’s
service engine light by following these steps:
  • Step 1: Turn on the ignition, but do not start the car. If your BMW has a START button, press it without pressing the brake.
  • Step 2: Hold the small odometer button until a service message appears.
  • Step 3: Press it again until you get a prompt asking for a reset.
  • Step 4: Press and hold it once more until the message reads “Reset Successful”.
  • Step 5: Turn the car off, then on again to ensure the reset was successful.
The “service engine soon” light is different from the “check engine” light. It means your
regularly scheduled maintenance
is due. If routine maintenance wasn’t part of your mechanic visit, you should return to the mechanic for service and to have the light reset.
