My mom keeps complaining about her Honda fob key not working from farther distances anymore. It turns out it’s because the battery needs replacing. How do I do it?

We’ve all been! Luckily, the steps to replace a Honda key fob battery are fairly simple.
  • Start by pressing and sliding the button that releases the metal key.
  • Using the now removed key or a flathead screwdriver, pry the key fob open.
  • Press your thumb down right above where the battery is to hold the fob together. This prevents the external buttons and contents from falling out.
  • Now, you can remove the dead battery. When doing this, make sure to remember the negative and positive sides.
  • Also, be careful not to touch the terminals on the new battery. Your skin’s oils can cause problems and reduce its life span.
  • Carefully place the new battery in, remembering the positive and negative sides.
  • Finally, line up the two halves of the key fob.
  • You can gently apply pressure; it should snap back together.
