How do you replace a BMW key battery?

I’ve had my BMW for a few years now and I’m starting to have issues with my key fob. It doesn’t seem to be able to unlock my car from a distance. How can I replace my BMW key battery?

Most car key batteries last for about three or four years before needing a new battery. Depending on the type of
BMW
key you have, you may not need to replace the battery.
If you have a non-comfort access key, all you’ll need to do is go for a long drive as the key recharges through the ignition. If you have a smart key or comfort access key and can open your key fob, you will need to replace the battery by following these steps:
  1. Buy a new CR2032 battery.
  2. Press the tab on the key fob to release the metal key.
  3. Use the key or a flathead screwdriver to open the battery cover.
  4. Remove the dead battery and put the new one in its place.
  5. Close your key fob and return the key.
Once you have successfully replaced or recharged your battery, you should have no trouble using it effectively from a distance. If you’re interested in more car-related convenience, be sure to check out the
