I recently moved to a new house and need to program my car to open my new garage door. How can I program my Dodge Ram’s garage door opener?

Wow, congrats on the move!
Dodge Rams
are equipped with a HomeLinkⓇ system that will allow you to program up to three separate garages or gates. These buttons are located in one of two places—either on the overhead console or on the sun visor.
Once you’ve located the HomeLinkⓇ buttons, follow these steps to program your
Dodge Ram’s
garage door opener:
  • Park outside the garage
  • Reset the car’s HomeLinkⓇ system by pressing down at the same time on the two outside buttons—hold down on these buttons until the indicator light starts flashing (this may take up to 20 seconds)
  • Determine the type of garage door opener you have by looking at the opener fixed to the garage’s ceiling. Look for the “learn” or “train” button—not all garage door openers will have this button. If your opener has one of these buttons, your garage is equipped with a rolling code garage door opener and will require a few additional steps to program your car’s garage door opener. If you do not have this button, you have a non-rolling code garage door opener.
  • Push the ignition button once, but don’t turn the engine all the way on.
  • Hold your handheld garage door opener one to three inches away from the HomeLinkⓇ system. Simultaneously hold down on the HomeLinkⓇ button you want to program and the button on your handheld opener. Hold down on these buttons until the HomeLinkⓇ system’s indicator light starts to flash slowly at first, then quickly. This may take 30 seconds.
  • Release the buttons when the indicator light starts flashing rapidly.
  • Test your garage door opener by holding down on the HomeLinkⓇ system’s button—you are watching the indicator light to see if it stays on continuously as you press down on the button. If it does, then your car’s garage door opener is successfully programmed.
  • At this point, you’ve completed the process if you have a non-rolling code garage door opener!
If you have a rolling code garage door opener, you have some additional steps:
Get out of your car and walk over to your garage’s door opener and look again for the “learn” or “train” button. Firmly push and release this button. *Now, you’ll need to move quickly or have a friend help you for this next step. After pushing the “learn” or “train” button, you have *30 seconds** to return to your car. *Once back at your car, push the HomeLinkⓇ button you want to program two times, holding the button down for two seconds each time. *If your garage door opens or closes after pushing the button twice, you’re done! If not, hold down on the HomeLinkⓇ button for two seconds a third time. Now, your garage door should be fully programmed to your Dodge Ram!
If your garage door opener still doesn’t work after this process, you may have a wiring issue. In this case, don’t be shy to pay a visit to an auto mechanic to diagnose the problem.
