“To get gap insurance, a car can’t be more than a few years old. Some companies won’t offer gap insurance to any used car buyers at all.
That being said, there are two ways to buy gap insurance if you qualify:
  • You can sometimes purchase gap insurance directly from your lender as part of your loan. But keep in mind that your lender will likely charge interest on your premium.
  • You can also purchase gap insurance from your insurer—if they offer it. However, many providers do not. Contact your insurance company to find out if it’s an option.
